*A Vintage Fifties Wedding on a Budget?*

A Vintage Fifties Wedding on a Budget?

Wednesday 1st July 2015

The 1950s was a time of pastel colours, patterned dresses, lace and pearls, long gloves, hats and eccentric dancing, fun, creative, crazy and retro! and a 1950s wedding themeĀ is a fantastic way to spend the day, for both the bride and groom and the guests.

The 50's jolted the world out of its crooner inspired comfort zone and best of all it's right back on trend. it doesn't matter that you weren't there, just dare yourself to be different, go for style, fun, colour and a wedding to remember. With so many great idea's and best of all it's not expensive, but looks stunning!

We all want to get the best deals when preparing our wedding day - but how can we do this on a budget? Tight budgets in themselves are very 1950s, so you're definitely sticking to the theme!
What really matters on your wedding day is that you have fun and that all the people you care most about are around you - two conditions that don't necessarily come with a hefty price tag. So, how can you go about saving a bit of cash on that gorgeous fifties wedding?

The thing about a vintage retro 50's wedding, it fits almost any environment from a small barn to a large venue. The dressing of the venue is where you can save tons of money!

If you've got a good bunch of mates with a variety of crafty and arty skills then you can definitely get them to help out with the preparations and some of the things that happen on the day. The fifties was all about people chipping in together and it's more fun this way!

Don't forget the classic bunting for your fifties theme - easily made yourselves with a little help from your crafty friends! And how about the sweet trees - must have one of those!

Crafty mates are usually really happy to help out on the day, but don't put them under too much pressure in case they are nervous about their input! If you've got a friend who owns a classic fifties car then you're really in luck because this sorts out your transport straight away! Or perhaps a VW Campervan - plenty online for hire. Make your own '50s playlist.

Spend less on your outfits
For a fifties wedding the most important thing is that you stick with the fun theme. You could really cut costs by choosing a themed fifties dress instead of spending thousands on a traditional wedding dress. This goes for the bridesmaid's dresses too and the guys need only make themselves look smart with a fifties twist.

Choose a single venue or take things outdoors
You might be able to save money by holding the wedding ceremony and the meal and the party all in the same venue. However, you might save even more cash if you take things outdoors after the ceremony and hire a marquee. A marquee in a field is a great idea because it gives your wedding a traditional fifties fete atmosphere and it opens up a few options in terms of supplying your own food and drink - perhaps even vintage craft beers for the occasion!

Some venues can offer for a reasonable rate, such as old Victorian Baths or bandstands - see what your area has to offer.

Instead of shelling out on extravagant wedding favours for all your guests, you have the ideal opportunity to add to the sense of place and reinforce the fifties theme of the day by using retro sweets instead. People don't expect much from wedding favours so it's best to keep things simple. Sweets like pear drops and rhubarb and custards go way back and people will definitely associate them with your vintage theme. Or make your guests some wonderful jams and supply little jars of them as a fabulous home-made favour. Some unusual favours such as - flip-flops and sunglasses!

All wedding stationery has to reinforce your theme but you can definitely achieve this by shopping around and finding the best deal on invitations, save the date cards and thank you cards online.

The internet is now bursting with retro sites to help with idea's and for you to achieve a stunning retro wedding at half the cost!!!

A retro wedding video looks, well stunning! The movie is edited to reflect and harmonise with the period. It's a 50's movie!

You can get the real feel of a retro vintage 50's at a number of musical festivals, check these out:
